Privacy

Telebem is in development. This is the policy we intend to launch with, written in plain language. It will be reviewed and finalised before anyone is asked for anything.

What this preview collects

Every search runs in your browser against an index that was shipped with the page (the whole catalogue, not a sample), so what you type is never sent anywhere. Two things do reach a server: a suggestion you send through “Know a resource we’re missing?”, and signing in. Both are covered below.

What is kept on your device

The language you pick is saved under fo-locale so the site opens in it next time; it is a preference, not an identifier, and it never leaves your browser. Whether you folded the sidebar is kept the same way, under fo-side. Anything you save while signed out is kept under fo-saved, in this browser only; when you sign in it moves to your account and is cleared here. Signing in adds a session cookie, which is what keeps you signed in as you move between pages; Telebem cannot hold you signed in without it. Your answer to the cookie notice is itself saved under fo-consent. Clearing your site data removes all of them, and signing out ends the session both here and on the server.

No analytics, no tracking pixels, no advertising or measurement scripts of any kind. The cookies above are the only ones set, none of them follow you to another site, and the notice that appears when you sign in is where you say so.

Other services

One: the 3D scenes come from Spline (spline.design), which receives the standard request details any website does, such as your IP address. They load only when a scene scrolls into view, so a visit that never reaches one contacts nobody but Telebem.

Everything else is served from Telebem’s own domain, including the typefaces and the provider icons on each entry. Those icons are stored here rather than hotlinked, so opening a page does not announce you to the organisations listed on it.

Your account

Signing in with Google tells Telebem your name, your email address and your profile picture: nothing else, and never your Google password. Those three are stored so the account is yours the next time you come back.

While you are signed in, what you save is kept on your account (which entries, and when you saved each), so the list is the same on every device. Removing an entry deletes it.

If you fill in your profile, Telebem stores what you enter there: a username, a short bio, your university, program and study year, your city and country, the links you add, and a photo if you upload one. The photo is cropped and made smaller in your browser before it is sent; the original is never uploaded. A profile is private until you turn on Public profile. While it is public, anyone with its address can see your name, photo, those fields and any suggestion of yours that was added to Telebem. Your email address and your saved list are never shown to anyone. Turning the profile off hides all of it at once, and removing the photo deletes it.

Google is told that you signed in to Telebem; Telebem is not told anything about what you do on Google. You can disconnect Telebem at any time from your Google account settings.

Ask us to delete your account and we delete the row: name, email, picture, profile, every session and your saved list with it.

Suggestions

A suggestion stores what you wrote and the page you sent it from and, if you were signed in, which account sent it. Your IP address is held in memory for ten minutes to stop a stuck button or a script sending the same thing over and over, and is never written down. A person reads every suggestion, and nothing is published from one automatically. If a suggestion is added to Telebem, it is linked to the entry it became and shown on your profile while the profile is public.

Searches

Today a search never leaves your browser. If that changes (searching the full index server-side would be the reason), searches would be used to return results and, in aggregate, to find gaps in the index. They would never be sold, and ranking is never paid for.

Results link to the official source. Once you follow a link, that site’s own privacy policy applies.
